welcome back to Squawk on the street the US national cricket team pulling out a shocking and historic win over Pakistan in this year’s Cricket World Cup and it comes as Business Leaders such as Microsoft sa and Adella invest billions in order to bring the sport to America Sima Mod’s here as the uh names and the big money that’s involved sea and David it’s significant that the T20 World Cup is being co-hosted here in the US it’s seen as a way to raise Cricket’s profile in the west now the sport may not be popular here but a group of investors are trying to change that including Microsoft CEO Sean Adella Adobe CEO shantan nunar Ryan Venture capitalists from Iconic Ventures madona Adventures have founded America’s own cricket league currently there are six teams anticipated to spend roughly 75 to100 million each every team in the league has the obligation to build their own stadium in total I’m told nearly 850 million is being invested in this us League one of the main owners and the CEO of Willow TV which has the exclusive Broad rights in the US says the goal is to make this a mainstream sport I think the opportunity and the potential is to really give exposure of cricket to the market I mean I think it’s a real statement of how important America is for the global Cricket ecosystem uh that it’s happening and then you know on top of this a few years ahead potentially hosting the Olympics in Los Angeles and cricket being included in that um it’s just these are both great shots in the arm for the sport in the country fans are now counting down to be highly anticipated India Pakistan match where tickets start around 25 but go up to as much as $10,000 at the newly built pop-up stadium in Long Island David the last time these two Rivals played in 2019 over 300 million viewers just inside India which is twice the rating viewership of the Super Bowl so uh a lot of eyes a lot of fans
